In this assignment, you will employ PEST analysis, SWOT analysis, and Michael Porter\u2019s Five Forces1, applying visualization tools, to understand a business context, and to provide succinct and supported advice to the following question. A description of the analysis, modeling, and advice activities is provided below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should ANZ bank abandon the physical branch model and transition all its services online?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specific Tasks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, you\u2019ll need to do some background research on ANZ. Second, you have three tasks to complete. For the first three tasks, you should use Microsoft Powerpoint, or an appropriate modeling\/diagramming package, to present and explain your analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) PEST analysis and model<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

a) Analyse and identify the most important macro-environmental forces (political, economic, social, technological) that will influence ANZ\u2019s decision to adopt only online service delivery models<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) SWOT Analysis And Model <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Analyze the strengths (internal competencies [incl. learning management systems], expertise, brand, etc.) of ANZ that will enable it to become a purely online provider.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Analyze the weaknesses (i.e. constraints) within ANZ that will inhibit its ability to become a purely online provider (e.g. existing physical branches).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Analyze the market opportunities for ANZ which make the transition to purely online delivery an attractive proposition (think about the post-COVID world).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. \u00a0Analyze the market threats that could affect 1) ANZ\u2019s ability to offer online delivery, and 2) take a market leadership position in online banking.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    3) Porter\u2019s Five Forces Analysis And Model<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    a) The purpose of your Porter\u2019s Five Forces analysis is to identify the major competitive forces for ANZ in the online banking sector and fully online service provision. The analysis will help you to understand where ANZ is best able to reduce or control the intensity of competition. What 1 A note on the industry authenticity of the assignment: these modeling tools have been around for three decades and are still widely used in industry today. They are essentially heuristics but they are very effective tools for generating thinking, discussion and action (go\/ no go, further analyses required, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As professionals, you need to have a mastery over basic tools such as these. Just because something is old does not mean it is obsolete! INF10003 Assignment 1 competencies, expertise, investments, brand equity, etc. can ANZ draw upon to mitigate the threat of new entrants (i.e. organisations) competing online and face-to-face? What things can ANZ draw on to mitigate the threat of substitute products from existing and new players competing in these markets? What things can ANZ do to mitigate the commercial power of customers. What things can ANZ do to mitigate the power of suppliers (e.g. IT). For the purposes of this assignment, let\u2019s agree that suppliers include technology vendors (software\/ hardware), facilities maintenance and operations third parties, and also consultants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    4) Recommedation (OR Advice)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    a) Four sentences only. In industry, no one wants to read a lengthy document. In many cases, when you\u2019re committing something to paper, you are telling people what they need to know \u2013 that\u2019s all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    b) This task is about succinctness. These takeaway sentences should sit next to the appropriate diagram analysis, and can be replicated on the final recommendation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    i) Sentence 1 Simply state your recommendation: should ANZ abandon the physical branch model and transition all of its services online?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    ii) Sentence 2 Based on your PEST analysis, what is the key takeaway in support of your recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    iii) Sentence 3 Based on your SWOT analysis, what is the key takeaway in support of your recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
