More sugar dissolves in hot water than it does in cold water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heatproof mat<\/td>Beaker<\/td><\/tr>
Bunsen burner<\/td>tripod<\/td><\/tr>
gauze mat<\/td>water<\/td><\/tr>
Stirring rod<\/td>Sugar<\/td><\/tr>
matches<\/td>spatula<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. 100 ml of cold water was added to a beaker.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. One spatula of sugar was added to the water and stirred until it dissolved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. More sugar was added and the mixture stirred continually until no more could dissolve. The final amount of sugar which dissolved in cold water was recorded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. The mixture of sugar and water was heated with a Bunsen burner for 4 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. More sugar was added and the mixture stirred continually until no more could dissolve. The total amount of sugar that could be dissolved was recorded.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Discussion:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    More sugar was dissolved in the hot water than in the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    cold water. A thermometer could have been used to measure the temperature of the water. The amount of sugar could have been measured more accurately by adding smaller amount at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Conclusion:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Three times as much sugar dissolves in hot water as in cold water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
