It involves: formulating a testable hypothesis or appropriate research questions; designing a suitable programme of data collection; critically evaluating and interpreting your own data in the light of current research; and summarising and reviewing in a clear and professional manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Aims (Definitive)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To plan and organize independent research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To extend and enhance laboratory\/field and data handling skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Learning Outcomes (Definitive)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plan, design and execute a sustained piece of independent research;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formulate a testable hypothesis\/research questions and design a programme of data collection aimed at testing\/exploring the issues;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate enhanced and improved data collection skills;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Critically evaluate and interpret their own data in the light of current research;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summarise and critically review their own work in a clear and concise manner; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage in full professional and academic communication with their peers<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Curriculum Content (Indicative)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Formulation of a research problem\/hypothesis and the research objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construct a research design (including methodology and type of data required)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data acquisition, analysis and interpretation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submission of a written report (dissertation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Teaching And Learning Strategy (Indicative)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students will be given necessary advice about their project selection, planning for research, general research design and research ethics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Project Module Handbook which covers wider topics about project management, report structure and writing, and oral presentation will be made available to students at the start of the course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will work independently, although with guidance from allocated members of the Teaching Team plus other available Faculty Staff where necessary.
