Assignment Task

(A) Describe the feasibility, benefits, and drawbacks of any two different pile foundation types. Select your preferred foundation solution for the pier and explain your choice, including any assumptions you have made. You will need to do some basic axial capacity calculations to support your choice.

(B) If you were in charge of a new site investigation, what intrusive site investigation techniques would you choose at the pier location? Describe the in situ and laboratory tests that would be useful for designing your foundations for the pier. 

(C) Use desk study information (e.g., information from the maps and British Geological Survey) to find out if there are any more issues you should consider in relation to the proposed construction. You must consider the specifics of the site – environment, hazards, etc.
