BSB41419 – Workplace Health And Safety Report Assignment

Assignment Task

Section 1: Justification and Preparation of Research

Scenario

Following the recent significant incident at Australia Wide Constructions, where a worker fell from the roof, several recommendations were presented as part of the investigation into the cause of the incident.

In your role as a safety advisor, your state workplace health and safety (WHS) manager has asked you to research one of the recommendations and develop a report for submission to the senior management team and Health and Safety Committee. The report must outline how this recommendation:

  • Could be incorporated into AWC’s WHSMS and processes
  • Would assist AWC’s OHS compliance requirements
  • Will improve the organisation’s safety culture

Section 2: Draft a WHS report and submit for review

Scenario:

Once your research has been completed, your state WHS manager would like you to structure this research into a written report for submission to the Health and Safety Committee (HSC) for consideration. You will also need to develop a presentation (Task 10) that will be used to present the report to the HSC.

Your report must provide clear explanations of how your recommendation will assist AWC in meeting their OHS Legislative requirements and will improve the organisation’s safety culture. To assist in doing this your WHS manager has asked that your report includes:

  • A short title that quickly informs the reader of the topic
  • A clear explanation of the reason this recommendation is being presented to the HSC. For privacy reasons, do not use the names of the team members involved
  • What changes need to happen so the recommendation can be successfully implemented. Changes may include:
    • Work processes – include a brief description of the current process, how they contributed to the area of non-compliance and what changes need to happen
    • Training – include a brief description of the type of training, who needs to be trained (worker groups) and why
  • Information on how the success of the recommendation will be measured (both quantitative and qualitative methods) and who is responsible for measuring this success
  • The references you researched when developing your report and references to legislation where areas of non-compliance are discussed within the report.
  • At least one suitable graphic to assist in displaying information. Graphics may include diagrams, tables, charts, pictures, etc.
