Assignment Task
Write a report on how to recognize coastlines with beaches and use your field experience from Sola Beach! Explain how the processes behind indicators that you mention (why/how are they indicators?). Also explain how one can specify the environment in outcrops or in cores (for example, which structures or a combination of structures are proof(s) of “your” environment?)
Notes of experience during the trip:
- Topography – flat foreshore
- Beach dune ridge
- Wind creates sand dunes
- Parallel flow (ocean water)
- Fine sand (coarser near the water)
- High and low tides exist
- Near the shore, the ground is compact (waves strike the beach and the sand on the ground “makes” it harder to walk)
- Parting lineation (stripes by the beach where the water has been)
- Linguoid out of phase
- Tiny shells are spotted
- One side of the river has ripples
- Erosion on one side of the river
- Delta=wave dominated/ tide wave dominated
- Desert pavement
- Flint can be found
- Type of dunes: a mix of transverse and star dunes
