Upon successful completion of this subject, you should be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content of relevant senior secondary Science curriculum.

2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of various pedagogical approaches relevant to teaching senior secondary Science curriculum

3. Demonstrate ability to organise content into an effective learning and teaching sequence using knowledge of relevant senior secondary Science curriculum, SOLO taxonomy and Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.

4. Demonstrate ability to ‘backwards design’ an appropriate learning and teaching sequence using the Understanding by Design (UbD) planning model, knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies (including literacy and numeracy teaching strategies appropriate to Science)..

5. Demonstrate ability to organise content into an effective learning and teaching sequence for summative assessment using knowledge of relevant senior secondary Science curriculum and UbD planning model, including design and justification of an assessment task and rubric.

6. Demonstrate ability to organise content into a sequence enabling various forms of diagnostic and formative assessments for the purposes of evaluation, reflection and goal setting, using knowledge of relevant senior secondary Science curriculum.

Task 1

These questions are based on Module 1 Science curriculum. Questions would be based on the following aspects:

  • Australian science curriculum
  • Victorian science curriculum
  • Junior science to VCE

The full details of the quiz you could see in A1 and multiple questions would be based on your understanding of the Science curriculum and VCE study design. You will get only one attempt for this quiz.

Task 2

In Assessment Task 2, you will design one SAC (school-assessed coursework) and rubric or marking guide for part of a VCE AoS in your chosen subject and justify your decisions in relation to the appropriate VCE key knowledge, key skills, and outcome statements, as well as the concepts you have been learning regarding curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment. For this task you will be using an ‘exam-aligned’ pedagogical approach, that is, mirroring the requirements of the final examination in your subject.

Task 3

In Assessment Task 3, you will design and justify a learning and assessment sequence for the same part of the VCE AoS in your chosen subject that you addressed in AT2. Planning with desired outcomes in mind, you will use Understanding by Design (UbD) to ‘backwards design’ to plan your sequence, drawing on your knowledge of the 5E inquiry approach, SOLO and Bloom’s taxonomies to progress your VCE learners towards achieving success in the SAC you designed for AT2. A place based visit details in the form of excursion/incursion must be incorporated into the unit. This should be a suitable experience to link content to real world context and can be incorporated as an excursion plan to the unit.
