Healthy Ageing
- Healthy ageing is the concept of getting older in a positive and healthy way. The Centenary Institute defines healthy ageing as “the idea of prolonging your well-being by developing and maintaining your abilities in older age” (2023).
- The concept of healthy ageing includes mental, physical and social health and wellbeing. Many factors can impact an older persons ageing process and overall health including; environmental factors, socio-economic status, genetics and biological factors, lifestyle, diseases/health conditions, mental health, diet etc. (The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, n.d., Department of Health & Human Services, n.d., World Health Organization: WHO, 2022).
Artefact 1: Negative Representation of Ageing
- Discuss why the image/artefact projects a negative perception of ageing
- Discuss how the image/artefact contributes to perpetuating myths and stereotypes of ageing
- Discuss the implications of the negative representation on the older person on at least two (2) of the following aspects: physical, mental, social, ethical, political, and economic. Discussion of the implications is supported by evidence-based literature.
Artefact 2: Positive Representation of Ageing
- Explain how the image/artefact contributes to breaking down myths and stereotypes of ageing
- Discuss the implications of the positive representation on the older person on at least two (2) of the following aspects: physical, mental, social, ethical, political, and economic. Discussion of the implications is supported by evidence-based literature.
