Assignment Overview
You will undertake a major practical assignment focused on writing a proposal outlining the development a community development program aimed at addressing a specific social issue or promoting well-being within a target community. This assignment will allow you to apply psychological principles and methods to address real-world challenges and foster positive change at the community level.
Task
- Choose a specific community (e.g., neighborhood, town, rural area in Namibia) and identify a social issue or challenge that affects this community (e.g., poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, mental health stigma [psychology related]).
- Conduct a community needs assessment to gather information on the strengths, assets, resources, and needs of the target community related to the identified social issue.
- Design a comprehensive community development program this includes objectives, strategies and activities to address the identified social issues, implementation plan, and evaluation measures. Highlight, the presentation of the community development program, highlighting key components, rationale, and expected outcomes.
- Develop a detailed implementation plan outlining timelines, resources needed, roles and responsibilities, and collaboration with community partners and stakeholders. Consider practical considerations such as community engagement strategies, communication channels, and logistics in implementing the program effectively.
- Define specific evaluation indicators and criteria to assess the effectiveness and impact of the community development program on the target community. Determine appropriate data collection methods (e.g., surveys, focus groups, observations) and evaluation tools to measure the success or failure of the program.
