1. Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Select a class that you are currently enrolled in. You may use this class or another class for answering this question. Identify the class syllabus that you are considering for this question, and then propose a change to the syllabus. Why should the syllabus be changed as you are proposing? Use your understanding of Freire’s preference for problem-posing to answer this question. 2. Topoi of Invention. For this question, I want you to use one of the topics you are selecting for either your persuasion speech or your commemoration speech. Once you have selected and identified your topic, I want you to show how each of the Topoi of Invention can be used to generate a question or a line of inquiry for that topic. So, I want you to identify how each topoi of invention creates a way of talking about your specific topic. To do this, you of course need to know how each of the topoi “work” and how to use them to find ways to talk about something. 3. Describe an actual example in which you delivered a presentation to an audience of at least two people. Briefly describe the context of your presentation. What were you talking about, and what were you doing to make yourself credible? Explain how the two (or more) people in your audience reached a different assessment of your credibility. To get full points for this answer, you should be able to describe how audience members are assessing the different dimensions of your credibility. How is it that one audience member reaches a different conclusion about your credibility than another audience member? Your answer should be specific to the example you are describing as well as to the audience to whom you presented. 4. Verbal and nonverbal communication. For this question, I want you to identify an example of communication that involved you personally. Describe the context in which the example occurred. (If you want, you may use your example from the previous question) Once you have identified and described your example of communication, I want you to identify and describe what parts of that communication are verbal and what parts of that communication are non-verbal. Remember, I am looking for a single and concrete example of communication, but I want you to show me that you can pick out what is verbal and nonverbal about that one example.
