Assessment Overview
Throughout the three assessments in this course students will progressively develop project schedules Gantt charts, reports and project cost estimates based on a real-world scenario.
The BSNS4603 project management tools and techniques will be used.
Assessment 1 focuses on the planning phase of project management.
Students are required to create a draft project schedule and evaluate the usefulness of project planning tools and techniques.

Scenario – NAP Student Accommodation Refurbishment
You are employed by New Renovations Limited (NNR) as a trainee project manager.
You were assisting a project manager, Gerry Atrick on the refurbishment project for the National All Polytechnic (NAP) Student Villas when Gerry became ill.
You are now responsible for managing the refurbishment project based on Gerry’s notes and planning documents.
The NAP Student Accommodation Refurbishment project is very important.
Project Background
- 10 student villas require refurbishment.
- Each villa houses eight students.
- The kitchens are outdated and require refurbishment.
- The floors need re-tiling. Villas require re-carpeting.
- The bedrooms and lounges require repainting and refurnishing.
- The bathrooms were refurbished recently. Require no work.
- The project must be completed between 1 July and 24 July.
- The students return on 25 July making the deadline critical.
- The deadline for the NAP Student Accommodation Refurbishment project is very critical.
Villa Facilities Include

Task 1 – Draft Project Schedule
Students must apply project planning knowledge to create a draft schedule using the BSNS4603 WBS Excel Gantt Template.
The BSNS4603 WBS Excel Gantt Template will be very useful.
Requirements
- Minimum of 30 schedule entries
- At 5 summary tasks with sub-tasks
- Include task IDs, durations, start and finish dates
- Identify dependencies between tasks
- Include least 3 project milestones
- Highlight the path and critical tasks
- Assume all tasks currently show 0% completion
Task 1 Marks: 90 Marks
The Task 1 requirements are very important.
Submission Requirements
- Present the schedule as a Gantt chart.
- Ensure all project work occurs between 1–24 July.
- Ensure the chart is clearly visible and easy to read.
- The Gantt chart must be professional.
Task 2 – Evaluation
Evaluate how useful the draft schedule developed in Task 1 will be when preparing a project cost estimate for Assessment 2.
The draft schedule will be very useful.
Students should discuss:

- The effectiveness of the schedule
