The assessment brief will focus on the application of best practice frontline management skills in an organizational context. The candidate’s work should demonstrate, with supporting evidence, the practical application of the following:

Supervisory Skills

  • Undertake a training needs analysis, to include an organisational analysis, a task or job analysis and a gap analysis
  • Design and implement a training plan based on the training needs analysis
  • Planning Skills

    • Design and implement an operational work plan or project, consistent with the organisation’s strategic, tactical and operational plans, and including both short- and medium-term objectives, and Key Result areas or Scorecards
    • Design appropriate monitoring and performance management methodologies for an organisational work plan
    • Critically review and evaluate the implementation of a work plan or project, suggesting remediation steps that could be taken for any outstanding issues

     

    Team Management Skills

    • Negotiate a work plan or project in conjunction with team members
    • Deliver a team briefing, to include summarising information and agreed upon actions, and the agreement of a schedule to follow-up meetings
    • Utilise a variety of approaches to team member motivation
    • Devise a system for the monitoring and evaluation of team members’ work
    • Utilise the performance management feedback loop to ensure team and individual members’ goals are met and devise strategies to deal with poor performance

     

    Organising Skills

    • Devise a personal plan for organising the learner’s own work, to include SMART objectives
    • Design procedures for a range of supervisory work activities e.g. managing communications, managing documentation
    • Plan a meeting utilising appropriate notice, agenda and venue
    • Effectively chair a meeting, displaying good time management, agenda management and note-taking skills
    • Evaluate the success of a meeting, to include participation, attendance and team member roles
    • Delegate work to team members, to include assignment of tasks, monitoring of progress and evaluation of results
    • Document all elements of supervision/line management practice

    Presentation of Evidence

    Evidence for this assessment technique may take the form of written, oral, graphic, audio, visual or digital evidence, or any combination of these. Any audio, video or digital evidence must be provided in a suitable format.
