Business Intelligence group assignment: assignment brief
At the start of the unit, the cohort will be split into groups/teams of 3 to 5 students. Each team will act as a consultancy company and will either be assigned specific aspects of a big project, or will be working on the same project, competing with other teams. A business problem of a designated company will be provided in the week before Easter together with relevant company information and further details on the requirements and expectations.
Each ‘consultancy company’ is to offer a comprehensive analysis of the performance of a chosen business function, product, or service in a designated fictional company. Using business intelligence, the team will analyse the data and provide recommendations for the company to improve its performance based on the analysis. Each group presentation should not be longer than 15 minutes. Each group also provides an executive summary, a variable definition and descriptive statistics table and the R code of the data analysis to allow a replication of the analysis. In addition, each group member provides a self- and peer assessment for each group member.
The presentation should introduce the business question, elaborate on operationalising the business question – including a table with the variable definition and descriptive statistics – and develop a data story using visualisation and linear regression techniques. The presentation should end with recommendations for actions or further investigations grounded in the analysis.
