In this assessment you are required to write a reflective report that outlines the context and opportunities for consulting in your professional area of interest, then outlines a strategic action plan that will enable you to develop your capabilities to succeed in acquiring consulting work in your professional context.

To succeed in this assessment, you need to demonstrate your understanding of the consulting industry, the types of consulting work and the structure of consulting careers relevant to your professional context, then apply this understanding to the development of your own consulting capacities.

Report requirements

Your report must include the following components:

1. Analysis of the opportunities for consulting within your professional context. 

• Explain your professional situation, including the specific industry that you are working in or hope to work in. 

   

• Discuss the context in which consultants might be required in your situation, including the types of problems they might be engaged to solve and the consulting roles that would be involved in the engagements.

2. Assessment of your current strengths and weakness in relation to identified and relevant consulting career opportunities.

• Identify an entry level manager consulting role within your organisation or via a job search website that is relevant and of interest to you. Perform a gap analysis based on the required skills set out in the job description and a self-assessment of your current strengths and weaknesses. 

3. A strategic action plan.
