Emerging issues Report

You are a senior member of a team and have been asked to write a report to the Senior Executive Officer, Addiction Services, HSE on the topic of substance use disorders (SUDs) and mindfulness based interventions (MBls).

This is a formal report and must be structured in line with conventions on report writing. It must include a reference list.

• Using the template Introduction, Background, Research (current and past, national and international), Discussion (include issues and challenges posed by SUDs and current best practice (national and international); examine the impact of MBI programmes on service users with SUDs and those working in the sector.

Include a critique of government responses in Ireland and abroad with respect to responses to substance misuse disorders and treatment options.

Critique the use of mindfulness as an intervention for individuals with substance use disorders in terms of benefits and challenges, staffing and resources. Compare and contrast the use of such an approach in Ireland and in other countries.

Draw on national studies and international research to support the use of MBls in addiction settings. Include recommendations and future implications(based on evidence, reading and direct experience of working in the sector).
