Brief course description:

This course introduces important Management Information Systems (MIS) concepts. It surveys information systems technologies and their role in supporting a wide range of organizational functions including administrative operations, decision making, strategic initiatives, and corporate philosophies. The course also provides a managerial perspective on the use, design, and evaluation of information systems.

Course objectives:

To introduce students to management information systems concepts with the aim of providing a strong foundation for more practical and applied work.

To provide students with analytical and practical skills required to work with management information systems in organizations.

Explain the use of management information systems for improving organization performance

Explain the role and functioning of management information systems in organizations

Examine some of the implications of using management information systems

Describe several types of information systems used in business (for example transaction processing systems, decision support systems, etc) and the opportunities and challenges they represent

Describe key areas of information systems management, namely: development, operations, and use.

Understand the role of a non-IS person in shaping the development, management, and use of information systems in organizations.
