The assignment consists of two stages.

Stage 1: Data Analysis

You must analyse the data on the Assignment 1 Excel file. The file includes tabs for:

• Data Description

• RACV Solar Data Set

• Interactive dashboard (see below)

The objective of your analysis is to identify key data and relationships which you can then include in your dashboard. For example, you have been advised that System Cost (i.e. revenue for RACV Solar) is one of the key measures for RACV Solar. 

Your analysis needs to identify how this is best presented on your dashboard.

Is the mean (average) system cost the most appropriate measure, or median?

Your analysis can point you toward the most meaningful (and interactive) way to display the data. 

A graph or a table? Should the table be displayed as a heatmap? 

Which type of graph? What data will be on the vertical and horizontal axes? Note, usually the key data measure (e.g. System Cost in the example above) is displayed on the vertical axis. 

Bar graphs are typically used for making comparisons, while pie graphs are good for displaying proportions.

Stacked bar (or column) graphs can include more data than a simple bar/column graph.

Part 2: Interactive Dashboard

Include an interactive “dashboard” for James which will help him understand and visualise key data and allow him to drill down into the data.

Your interactive dashboard must be completed on the “Dashboard” worksheet of the Excel file.

You can add extra sheets for other purposes, such as pivot tables or extra analysis. 

However, these extra sheets will not be marked. 

YOUR DASHBOARD IS THE ONLY WORKSHEET THAT WILL BE MARKED.

The minimum requirement is a neat, functional, interactive dashboard. It is expected that the dashboard includes at least four (4) and up to six (6) interactive components.

The following questions will help guide you in designing an interactive dashboard.

1. What are the highest priority areas that should be included in the Dashboard?

Refer to the guidance provided by James, and the key performance criteria for the sales team.

2. What are the most appropriate visualisations for the different components?

3. What about colour choices? 

For example, a specific colour for each sales person. 

Perhaps a Red-Amber-Green approach for a heatmap.

4. How can I make the dashboard interactive?

Note, slicers should only be used for categorical data. Also, remember that you have been provided with a sample. 

Total values will only apply to the sample, not the population. On the other hand, averages and proportions can provide insight into what to expect in the population.

Learning Outcomes

This task allows you to demonstrate achievement towards the unit learning outcomes (ULOs). The ULOs are aligned with specific graduate learning outcomes – that is, the skills and knowledge graduates are expected to have upon completion of their studies – and this assessment task is an important tool in determining achievement of those outcomes. If you do not demonstrate achievement of the unit learning outcomes, you will not be successful in this unit.

It is good practice to familiarise yourself with the ULOs and GLOs as they provide guidance on the knowledge, understanding and skills you are expected to demonstrate upon completion of the unit. In this way they can be used to guide your study.
