that his food be soft to aid him with chewing and swallowing, this has caused nm some difficulty as he says he does not like ‘baby food’ and so his appetite has decreased in recent weeks. He is on slightly thickened fluids. Due to his weakness, Peter requires some help with hygiene but wishes to do as much for himself as possible and takes great pride in his appearance. He is continent but does suffer. from the occasional accident, this is due to his inability to sometimes get to the toilet on time and then adjust his clothing and it causes him great distress. He also suffers from constipation on occasion.

Peter lives alone in a three-bedroom two-story house, in a quiet residential area in town. He has lived here for over 50 years. He is friendly with all his neighbors, and they frequently exchange visits. He was married but his wife passed away 5 years ago, he has two sons. His eldest son lives in Galway, he is 45, and married with one daughter who is 20 and studying Business in the university. His other son lives in America. He also has a sister and a brother alive, his sister lives locally and he has frequent contact with her and his adult nephew and niece. His brother lives abroad and they exchange Christmas cards and that’s about it. Peter worked as a furniture maker until he retired and took great pride in his work. His hobbies include a very keen interest in Irish history, playing cards and gardening. He used to partake ina weekly card game with his friends at least once a week.
