When Apple, Facebook, and Intel announced they were considering covering the cost of Planned Oocyte Cryopreservation or social egg-freezing treatments as a perk for female employees in late 2016, it was heralded as a progressive and radical evolution in the ‘war for talent.

 On the face of it, these perks may provide female employees with viable options that will allow them to establish a career foothold without the conflicting pressures associated with family planning and career development.

OC may hold the key to leveling the corporate playing field affording talented female employees time to establish their careers unencumbered by the biological obstacles that simply do not exist for their male counterparts. 

These [HR] strategies are clearly intended to support talented female employees’ career development aspirations by ‘aiding’ the postponement of family planning.

 Arguably, one could conclude that these HR talent management strategies are remarkably progressive, or are they?
