When did they write it?

3. What kind of language does it use? Is it dry and factual? is it emotional or passionate? 

is it attempting to convince?

Or is it using a story about one thing to make a point about something else? What kind of symbolism does it rely on? Why?

4. What kind of ideas, worldviews, values, problems or concerns does it reveal? 

What evidence does it give you for institutions, events and people?

STEP 2: Once you have brainstormed these ideas, provide me with a short essay which has a central question:

"What does this primary source reveal about the period in which it was created?"

You have 700 words (+/- 10%) (Not including footnotes) for this exercise: please write this up as a short essay, with a short introduction and a concluding paragraph. 

You will need to provide references to support your assertions.

Use footnotes, and use Chicago style. Provide a bibliography.
