Assessment Title - Mobile Application Development

Assignment Aims - For learners to demonstrate skills and abilities in selecting and applying suitable front-end web development techniques and approaches in order to develop a mobile application.

Learning Outcomes -

Examine and appraise the options available for interactive artefacts to connect to a range of data and communicative based applications.

Formulate a plan for the integration of interactive media with data and communication based applications.

Plan and develop a specialised interactive artefact using an OOP based authoring application.

Produce a multimedia artefact which allows users to interact with data and communication based applications.

Produce an interactive artefact, utilising OOP, which shows understanding and experimentation with a specialised interactive API.

Assessment Brief - You are required to propose and then develop an interactive mobile application using the technologies covered in this module (HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript). You may choose the type of application to be developed, however, the application should have a genuine purpose. Here are some basic requirements:-

The application must demonstrate the use of Ajax i.e. it must load and utilise external data such as JSON or XML.

The application must have a UI that works effectively on mobile devices.

You must demonstrate the application of suitable advanced tools, techniques and approaches. See the list at the end of the assignment specification for examples.

There are three elements you need to submit

Element 1: Proposal

The proposal document should describe the application you are planning to develop and the tools, techniques and approaches you will use. It will need to feature the following:

Introduction. This should briefly describe the background to the proposed development. The purpose, the intended users, a brief overview of the proposed functionality.

Wireframe models/mock-ups. Support your proposal with wireframe models/mock-ups (approx. 5 and no more than 8), to give an indication of the design and functionality of the application.

Analysis of tools, techniques and approaches. This should describe the tools, techniques and approaches you intend to use in developing the app. Each tool/technique/approach should be briefly described. You should also explain how you intend to use it in your application, and the reasons for using it. Your justification for using a particular tool/technique/approach should be supported by suitable references.

The maximum word count for the proposal is 1500 words. As a rough guide, the introduction should be no more than 500 words. This should give you at least 1000 words for the Analysis.
