TRAN5115M Sustainable Spatial Planning and Analysis Assignment - University of Leeds, UK

Objectives - This coursework is designed to help you to demonstrate and apply GIS and spatial analysis concepts and techniques to generate indicators of real-world transport problems and be able to evaluate their policy relevance in the field of sustainable planning.

The task - You are to write a report of no more than 2000 words in which you explain your preparation, calculation, visualisation and interpretation of a spatial sustainable transport planning indicator and discuss the context in which it would have policy relevance.

You are required to:

1) Calculate and present a spatial sustainable transport planning indicator for a city or region.

2) Explain the method of calculation in terms of the software and techniques used in a form that another researcher could use to reproduce the indicator

3) Discuss the indicator results, the policy relevance and its limitations.

The Assessment Criteria -

Criterion 1. Calculation and visualisation of one spatial sustainable transport indicator of your choice.

An excellent candidate will present high quality data visualisation of a relevant indicator including at least one map. A pass candidate will present mapped results of a relevant indicator - but with some be some flaws and issues of quality.

Criterion 2. Evidence of technical skills applied to produce the indicator and explanation of indicator construction.

An excellent candidate will demonstrate understanding of how to generate an indicator of their own construction (i.e. it goes beyond what is covered in the practicals - perhaps based on an indicator presented in a paper - and may have an element of originality) based on data sourced independently using high levels of technical skills as well as strong communication to explain the indicator construction.
